Finally finally finally I am going to be in town for a timba concert here in my area! I'm so excited. But wait... should I be? Or should I be worried?
Back in May/June we had Manolito here in Virginia. Everyone was hyped. Excited. They went, bought tickets, etc. It was very short notice and at a location that wasn't metro-friendly. This caused ticket sales to be a bit lower than perhaps the promoter would have expected. The result was a concert that started very late because the band only got paid for one set. The crowd wasn't told this until after the concert and, as you might expect, people weren't happy.
Now that Bamboleo is coming - people are hyped again! This is an exciting band and I believe ticket sales will be higher than for Manolito. However... I have heard it is the same promoter. He has posted the URL for ticket sales - but - the Bamboleo concert isn't listed. People want to buy tickets. Now they are worried.
Promoters MUST be reliable. They MUST be able to deliver what they are advertising. And honestly, in this area, where Cuban music has a hard enough time being played, they need to make sure they attract the Cuban salsa lovers and provide a great experience for them.
I am waiting to see how this promoter reacts today. I want to support Bamboleo but if we can't even buy tickets in advance, then, it makes me worried that we'll get to the venue and get 1 hour of concert for $30.
I'd like to know more about this concert and maybe cover it in the Annandale blog (http://AnnandaleVA.blogspot.com). Where in Annandale will it be held? ashford.annandale@gmail.com.
