Celebrating DJ Asho's Birthday at the Artisphere

On August 2nd we can call gather to have a big birthday celebration for Ariel "DJ Asho" Fernandez at The Arisphere.

What? At the Artisphere you ask? Yes. At the Artisphere. I realize that this past Saturday many people were not happy with the place and many people even left. I, too, was not happy with how the night was handled, the price, the early closing of the bar, etc. Although they promised to be in touch to discuss the situation (via Twitter) I am inclined to move past that and dance there on August 2nd. I am quite sure that they will not 1 - charge $20 again for a night of salsa dancing or 2 - will keep the dancing on Tuesday nights. The bar situation was strange but it isn't an issue on Tuesdays.

The evening will be just $8. Yes you read that correctly. It is also stated on the flyer so please be assured it is just $8.

Many locations have charged a "high" price for nights of dancing. The Salsa Room does it. Locations throughout the United States do it. I hear even the Paper Moon in Georgetown charges $20. I know that it was disappointing to many to have to pay that price. I paid because I wanted to support the evening. I wanted them to show that Cuban music is wanted. And to be fair, Artisphere has hosted a few Cuban bands - more than other places in DC. Perhaps if we continue to support we can get a Cuban salsa band in there soon too.

So mark your calendars for August 2nd and come out and celebrate with Ariel. I know that some groups have classes or practice that evening - maybe maybe they'll make an exception for this evening.

Note: Please note that I am not paid to endorse an event, a location, nor do I get perks for doing so. I write and promote events to promote Cuban dance/music in Washington DC.
